Therapy intensives in San Francisco

Therapy intensives can be a good option if you:

  1. Have recently taken medical leave from work or school due to mental health-related concerns

  2. Have recently discharged from an inpatient or intensive outpatient program

  3. Have a clear treatment goal in mind

  4. Have a significant trauma history

  5. Have scheduling restraints that make it difficult to attend consistent weekly therapy

Or if you simply have a preference for this format of therapy.

What does a therapy intensive look like?

During an initial intake session, we will first spend anywhere between 45-90 minutes talking through the main “headlines” of your life as it relates to therapy (e.g., family history, current relationships, current stressors, significant traumas, medical concerns, etc.). I will use this information to start mapping out a plan for your custom therapy intensive. This may be, for example, an a daily schedule of:

  1. Three hours of therapy

  2. One hour break

  3. Three hours of therapy

This schedule can be arranged for anywhere between 1 and 3 consecutive days of therapy. Custom options may include longer or shorter sessions, longer or shorter breaks, and integration of:

  1. Massage/body work

  2. Reiki/energy work

  3. Nourishing meals

  4. Yoga therapy

  5. Nature immersion (hiking, surfing, etc.)

…and more.

The biggest downside to weekly therapy is that it can be difficult to “pause” your life once a week, dive deep into your trauma, and then turn right back around and try to get through the rest of your day or week.

Some people find this format of trauma therapy very disruptive to their lives, thus an intensive option is a very compelling one for many clients.

Please note that contrary to the boundaries of weekly virtual therapy, you do not need to be a California resident to attend a therapy intensive if it is in person, thus traveling to California for an intensive or retreat is an appealing option for those who are not currently a California resident.
