I believe people come to therapy when the things that usually help them get through their challenges are no longer working for them.

Maybe you find yourself living too much in the past, or too much in the future. Maybe you want to be a better partner, feel optimistic about the future again, and feel like the person you have always imagined yourself to be.

Through therapy, we look at ways in which your thoughts and beliefs shape your entire reality, often negatively and unrealistically. I help you untangle those thoughts, get in touch with the strongest parts of your inner being, and get back to living life on your own terms.

In every journey, you need a guide. A guide to navigate not only the stresses inherent in everyday life, but a guide to overcome the stresses that become anxieties and keep you stuck, scared, and overwhelmed.

Otherwise, anxieties (and traumas) grow bigger and take up more space in your life. They show up in your performance at work, in your relationships, your sleep, even your health.

The truth is that you deserve to live a life free of anxiety, a life that you love.

I know how hard it is to be bogged down by anxiety, depression, and trauma, and to wonder everyday, “will things always be this bad?” I've dedicated my life to being a guide for others through these challenges and much more.

Getting started is easy:
1. Click on "Get Started" and fill out the contact form
2. I'll get back to you to find a time where we can connect and see if we're a good fit to work together
3. We'll get started on your path to healing

My promise is that I’ll show up fully for you in every session--to strike a balance between support and challenging you, to speak up, and to ignite in you the inspiration to meaningfully move forward in your life again. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

John Clarke, MA, EdS, NCC, LPCC, LPC provides online/virtual psychotherapy, counseling, and executive coaching for adults and adolescents living in California, North Carolina, and other states. I’m a California Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) #3668, a North Carolina Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) #12580 and a National Certified Counselor (NCC) #815022.

I’m also an entrepreneur, business coach, and owner of 3 successful businesses.

I use an integrative approach to therapy, drawing from approaches including Cognitive Behavior/Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, psychodynamic and interpersonal, and mindfulness. CBT is most useful in helping to quickly reduce symptoms and finding a new way of thinking about things. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a cutting edge treatment for PTSD and trauma where 84-90% of clients no longer have PTSD after as few as 3 sessions. Many psychological symptoms can be tied to the way we interact with one another, so I use the therapy relationship as a venue for playing out and adjusting interpersonal dynamics. Mindfulness (along with hypnosis, etc.) helps us to turn toward a problem rather than turn away, and can bring us to a more relaxed way of being.

I have received intensive training for treating anxiety and depression with Dr. Aaron Beck, the founding father of CBT, and Dr. Judith Beck, the current president of the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy. I have also received intensive training with Dr. Victor Yalom in interpersonal psychotherapy and psychodynamics. Finally, I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) by the EMDR Institute.
