I use an integrative approach to therapy, drawing from approaches including Cognitive Behavior/Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, psychodynamic and interpersonal, and mindfulness. CBT is most useful in helping to quickly reduce symptoms and finding a new way of thinking about things. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a cutting edge treatment for PTSD and trauma where 84-90% of clients no longer have PTSD after as few as 3 sessions. Many psychological symptoms can be tied to the way we interact with one another, so I use the therapy relationship as a venue for playing out and adjusting interpersonal dynamics. Mindfulness (along with hypnosis, etc.) helps us to turn toward a problem rather than turn away, and can bring us to a more relaxed way of being.

I have received intensive training for treating anxiety and depression with Dr. Aaron Beck, the founding father of CBT, and Dr. Judith Beck, the current president of the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy. I have also received intensive training with Dr. Victor Yalom in interpersonal psychotherapy and psychodynamics. Finally, I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) by the EMDR Institute.
